Killearn Woodland Cemetery
The Killearn Woodland Cemetery was an interesting build. After much deliberation, the design evolved into two half-moon- shaped walls turfed on top encircling a standing stone. The stone weighed in at 7.5 tons and was a particular challenge to transport and position on site. We had a great turnout of members during the construction phase and Alan Patrick deserves special mention for all his hard work in negotiations with the quarry and arrangements for the eventual placement of the centre stone.
As a postscript to this project, Peter Wilks, our contact with the Killearn Cemetery, arranged for a poem of Pam Ayres to be inscribed onto a plaque and attached to the standing stone. He was also fortunate in finding out that she was in the area recently and was willing to unveil the plaque.
